The lives of these guys are so absurd that it's right out of a spa opera. I've read other stuff from Leta Blake so I know this is unique to this series rather than her writing style in general. I love Will and Patrick. I like Jenny. I'd probably toss the rest out, particularly Will's parents.There was a part I didn't like at all, which happened right after they got to Hawaii. The drama had to follow and it just kept piling on. Then Patrick talked about wanting to start a family. This guy who hates the idea of love, but is deeply in love with Will, and knows he'll love their children. Peeling back the layers with Patrick is so interesting. He wants things to be perfect because he's a perfectionist, but also because he wants Will to be happy more than anything else. Only brains are a close second.I fell in love with these guys pretty much from the start. I loved watching them develop true feelings for one another but afraid to admit it so as to not risk rejection. Being legitimately, soberly married hasn't made them any less interesting. Like I said, I'll miss them, but I know they'll have a great life, at least in my imagination. This series has legs. Diabetic, recovering alcoholic Will Patterson and on-the-spectrum, genius neurosurgeon Patrick McCloud are still in love and still appealing even after six books detailing the unexpected success of their Las Vegas marriage.But they haven’t had a honeymoon yet. Both are total workaholics, and both have to deal with the sh**tshow that is Will’s weirdly extended family.There is no deep hidden meaning in this book—or in any of its predecessors; just the delightful zaniness of two young men trying to figure out why they work so well together in spite of every possible comic hurdle thrown in their way.Some of it is in fact not so comic: Leta Blake offers some dark background against which the sit-com silliness of these boys’ story stands out in vivid contrast. Managing Will’s diabetes—made worse by the interfering of his family—is a constant theme in these books. Patrick’s own emotional issues, and his appalling upbringing, also lend their somberness to the lighthearted story. Good looks and lots of money don’t solve problems. Even if nothing much happens, we are constantly reminded that, at 29 and 38, these boys are survivors. They’ve earned their happiness, and fought for it (and for each other) tooth and nail.There’s plenty of sexual hijinks in the story, too, since that’s the genre, and it seems particularly fitting in the context of Will and Patrick’s relationship. The book is a big romantic laugh, waiting to be enjoyed.
