Nate makes him feel wanted, and that's a first for Alfie. Is Nate genuine? Or is Alfie destined for heartbreak...Book The Freshman Review :
This is a gem ! The anticipation, the circumstances, the erotic feel of this tale is stunning !In the UK, Alfie, 18, is new as a prison guard. He takes more crap from his fellow guards than the prisoners. It's tough being the new guy. His boss is cantankerous and his fellow guards are slackers. Triple murderer, Nate, who's been there 10 years, has taken a liking to Alfie. He calls Alfie "Freshman" but in a nice way, and they are drawn to each other, but Alfie can't let his guard down. This is unlike any prisoner book I've read. It is a convicted killer and a guard, so, they are not the usual jail type scenarios. This is different, with a tenseness and sharpness that fills each scene. It is a story that is fresh, exciting and "un-put-down-able."Magnificent characters all the way through, and our author makes us feel like we are there watching and waiting. The sex is truly vibrant. We have a wonderfully written book, with a first time with this author for me, and I'm impressed. The ending is a total surprise. I loved this story.Highly recommended. ENJOY !====Thanks to Martin and Truus for their reviews that made me take a chance on a new author !===== I am so glad , I follow this book recommendation. Because , what an intense story this book turned out to be!85 % of the book occurs in building H , during the night shift at a prison . The main characters are Nate , a early 30ish inmate for the crime of triple murder and Alfie , a 18 years old new prison guard .Due to who they are in the prison, Nate and Alfie interactions are limited in time and to space and that makes for some serious UST , anticipation and anxiety ; not only for the characters but for the readers.I was in tenderhooks for about 90% of the story. The Freshman is a fusion of genres ; thriller, suspense, crime , erotica and romance.I got to point out, that even though, I added erotica it's more in words eroticism and not physical level. There is only one penetration scene at 85% or so in the entire book . The other few instances are very brief and almost PG-13 rated ; all do to the minimal amount of time and accessibility.Nate is a very sensual and imposing man, he captivates and intrigues Alfie . Their conversations are alluring, titillating , arousing and carnal. That's what I mean by erotic."This guy’s doing my head in at work.” Tia narrowed her eyes. “What’s he doing? He giving you a hard time?” “Kind of, but not. I don’t know. I’m not sure how to handle the situation. He’s—he’s a flirt with a touch of psychotic.”Alfie is very conflicted and don't know for sure if Nate is just a con artist, hardcore criminal and all around bad guy who wants to take advantage of him."When he was a kid waiting in the foster home, he readied himself to be loved and cherished, but it never came. The system taught kids to be reliant on others, and hope they were chosen to be loved. It turned good kids sad, and bad kids worse. Alfie promised himself never to trust someone with his heart. It had already been broken enough. "I loved reading this book! It's truly a amazing and riveting story . Until the very end I didn't know if this was going to be a HEA or not . Don't worry, I won't tell you. You got to read the book to find out.So why 4 instead of 5 ? The ending was rushed , there wasn't a epilogue , so it's really up to the reader to sort of decide.Remember the season finale of The Sopranos and Jerry Seinfeld? Sorta , kinda like that. But what a exciting and good ride it was!
